Su and Boldir, two heroes bold,

Fought a troll in the forest old.

They struck with their swords,

And the troll they floored,

And now the troll is dead and cold.

Boldir was unimpressed but said it was a worthy effort. Sulie was blunt in her criticism.

"My name isn't Su."

"I needed to shorten it to make the rhythm scan."

"We didn't fight in a forest."

"Poetic license."

"I didn't use a sword."

Exasperated, Mirellis spat, "Don't you have anything constructive to say?"

"It's awful."

"That's not constructive!"

"The troll is dead," Sulie said after a moment's thought.

"I don't know why I try."

"Also, you aren't a very good poet."

"Piss off, bitch."

Mirellis fucked Boldir extra hard that night, being as loud as possible. They had taken shelter under an oak tree. Neither the tree nor Sulie seemed to care for Mirellis's antics.

They spent most of their nights outside, but had one opportunity to sleep in an inn. The tavern owner wasn't thrilled to have a half-troll within his walls, but Mirellis sang beautifully and Sulie hid in the shadows.

They were all relieved when they finally passed through the gates of Priat City. A hub of trade and commerce, both Sulie and Mirellis expected Boldir to take them directly to a government office to collect his troll bounty. Instead, he went to a temple.

A few of the citizens looked at Sulie as they walked through the tightly-packed streets, but she was hardly the strangest or most exotic species to visit the city. Beyond humans, elves, and dwarves—the Empire's three most important species—there were half-orcs, lesser and greater goblins, a few ogres, and a handful species that Mirellis couldn't identify.

If the temple had been for one of the gods of war or heroes or travelers, it would have made sense. But Sulie and Mirellis found themselves going through the gates of Brenwyn, the goddess of love.

"You ever been in one of her temples before?" Mirellis asked the tall half-troll.

"No. You."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because I don't associate with whores?"

Sulie's eyes went wide and she hissed at the bard. "I don't think they like to be called that."

Mirellis smirked. "Give the temple a donation and get a fuck? That's whore work."

Inside the temple, with Boldir in the lead, they found themselves in the inner sanctum. There were two score of naked acolytes kneeling before a statue of the goddess Brenwyn. A priestess stood on the dais in front of the statue, her arms raised. She wasn't naked, but wore a gossamer-thin robe. They could see all of her body under the translucent material.

The acolytes were chanting some prayer. The priestess, upon seeing the trio—or maybe just Boldir—smiled, lowered her arms, wound her way through the small crowd, and approached the hero.

"Boldir, you have returned."

"Yes, Sister Rychell."

"Are you ready to commune with the goddess?"

"Not just yet, Sister. I have come to claim my bounty." He reached into the leather sack at his side and pulled out the charred troll head. Rychell looked sick, took a step back, and shook her head. "That's not for here."

Boldir's lip pulled back in anger. "That was not the agreement.
